Making Ourselves heard in Canberra

Meetings in February 2019

In February 2019, Code Read Dyslexia Network Australia was invited to Parliament House in Canberra to meet with Andrew Giles MP, Shadow Assistant Minister for Schools.

This meeting came about thanks to Nick Champion MP who requested a meeting on Code Read’s behalf. Nick attended with us and endorsed our work. What a Champion!

The 3 key points we discussed were:
1. The Year 1 Phonics Check,
2. Teacher training (in regards to the teaching of reading and understanding dyslexia),
3. The way reading is being taught in the vast majority of Australian schools is not in keeping with the science of reading.

We also met with Minister Yvette Berry, ACT Minister for Education and Early Childhood Development, as well as Elizabeth Lee MLA, ACT Shadow Minister for Education, and again we discussed the same 3 issues.

Representatives also met with Jihad Dib MP, NSW Shadow Minister for Education.

We look forward to further opportunities to meet with education leaders around our great nation.

Can you help get us an appointment?

After all, we all want what’s best for kids, right?
