Deb is a GP Obstetrician on the NSW/Vic border.
She was initially ignorant about dyslexia and learning difficulties until she identified her son was struggling in mid primary and the only explanation the school could give was that ‘some kids just aren’t academic’! After a deep dive into understanding how we learn to read, she now recognises the psychological, psycho-social and physical effects of unrecognised learning difficulties and neurodivergence and the challenges in the education space. She dreams of an education system where all teachers, even in rural areas, are knowledgeable and empowered to help all students be confident and competent particularly in their literacy learning.
