Scott Shirren

Director

Scott is a Child and Adolescent Psychologist who works in the north west of Victoria.

He is the director of Think.Talk Therapy Services, and regularly provides support to local schools on evidence-based literacy and numeracy practices to support their students with specific learning disabilities in reading (dyslexia), writing (dysgraphia) and mathematics (dyscalculia).

He has a primary school aged child who spent their first 2 years of schooling in a private school that said they were using a structured literacy approach, but were actually using out-of-date, poor-quality programs that emphasised guessing words from pictures. After being denied a meeting with the Principal, he and his wife made the difficult decision to move their child to a school that provided instruction firmly grounded in evidence-based practice. Twelve months on, their child is reading their first chapter book and no longer suffers from depression and school refusal.
