Julie Mavlian
Julie Mavlian is a mother of four children, including a son with dyslexia.
She is a learning and support teacher in a NSW Public School, who has worked the field of education for 30 years. Julie was recently awarded a Principal’s Network Award for Excellence in the role of classroom teacher.
She has worked with a wide variety of age groups from preschool to tertiary education, training Education Support Workers and Children’s Services students.
Julie trained and works as a Multisensory Structured Language (MSL)Therapist and became an Associate Member of the Australian Dyslexia Association (AMADA) when her son was diagnosed with dyslexia at 10 years of age. She appeared in ‘Outside The Square’, a DVD used for professional development in relation to dyslexia and explicit language instruction.
Julie has a Masters Degree in Special Education at Macquarie University and works on the FIVE from FIVE project with Dr Jennifer Buckingham. Since 2010 Julie has been administrator of the Dyslexia Support Australia group & has been helping parents understand dyslexia and the choices they have in finding help for their child, as well as advocating for change.
